The balloon
Twisting and turning
Caught up in a race
Trying to beat the wind
With childish spite
The balloon twists and turns
Not willing to give up
Full of itself
The balloon
The balloon
Huffs and puffs
Haughtily laughing at the wind
Rising again and again
Not willing to give up
The balloon dances with glee
Shaking its tail
Steadily rising above
Mocking the wind
Suddenly the wind
Blows with all its might
All that is heard
Is a pop
Eerie silence
And the whistle of the wind
Shattered dreams
Gone with the wind
Lost in the dark

I love the sweet energy in your poem ... children especially would delight in the journey and the POP.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen.
DeleteThank you Helen.
DeletePoor balloon...I like the personification, "mocking the wind" and "huffing and puffing."
ReplyDeleteI know the balloon was flying one minute and popped the next. I feel this is how our transition of being a child to an adult will be! Not all the times but sometimes.
DeleteOh, how vividly recreated! I was totally caught up in it. Nice use of repetition, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit and comments Rosemary Nisses-Wade.
DeleteA balloon, free in the wind until that last unfortunate pop.
ReplyDeleteYes, the pop is unfortunate. Without the pop the balloon would still be having a journey of a lifetime. Thank you for your visit.
DeleteThere is a childish enthusiasm & energy to it , it also seems like a transition from carefree times of childhood to rude awakenings when you transition to adulthood
ReplyDeleteVenky you read my mind, thank you for your visit.
DeleteIs that where the term "going out in a blaze of glory" came from?? It did, indeed, have a fun journey before the last hoo-rah!
